Q: I like unique names for characters and am looking forward to coming up with some when I start writing. What's the most unique character name you've come across?
I think will be the one that will be said a lot but Renesmee is definitely it! Although, names like Finnikin and Froi are up there too. It's really hard these days for any names to be "unique" as names that used to be classed as different are now the norm and names that were normal are getting to be rare. But I think there are some fantastic names out there and mixing two names is great! I love reading a book and finding a name I have never seen before - although that makes it hard if you have no idea how to pronounce!!
What about you guys?

Ahh, mixing names was my grandfather's pastime. :D Fortunately, I didn't get the pleasure of it but for my mom's name? :D It was mix of her father's name and her mom's names. A lot of people will always scratch their heads when they heard it and worst, they can't spell it but her name wasn't even all consonants, there were vowels in there. Tsk. Some people just need leg up in the imagination department. :D I haven't encountered the book where Renesmee came from tho. My FF. Old follower.
ReplyDeleteWhat is your mum's name? :) Renesmee is from Twilight :P
DeleteChecking out your FF now :)
Renesmee, definitely. What a weird, weird name. You're so right about it being difficult for names to be unique nowadays. I'm writing a couple stories at the moment and it's amazing how often my characters' names crop up in the different books I'm reading. I've even changed a few because of that. I like different names, but not totally bizarro names (like Renesmee) :D
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read some of the names you have in your stories :)
DeleteOhh I couldn't stand Renesmee. I have to admit it's unique, though. Here is my answer - http://bookprowl.blogspot.com/2012/02/follow-friday-2.html
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower stopping by :)
I couldn't figure out how to say it. I was constantly changing how to say it, and decided the name is too hard!
