Author Interview - Anna White
Hi Claire, Thanks so much for hosting me on your blog!
Thanks for joining me! Let's start with - Describe your book in three words!
Romantic,
dark, supernatural
Oooh, sounds awesome! Were there any road bumps in the story
process?
I
am an over planner! I got the idea for the story that starts in The Light
and Fallen, and I knew exactly how the first book would end, but I had no
idea what came next. I refused to start writing until I knew where everything
was going and how it would come together. I remember as a kid telling my mom
these stories and just talking myself into a corner and I did not want
that to happen 150 pages in. Then once I figured it out I was terrified to get
started. Once I actually made myself start writing it was all downhill!
Oh wow! That is a major bump, but we're glad you got through it! How long did it take to write The Light and The Fallen?
It
depends on how you define write…about 18 months of thinking, research, and
planning, 8 weeks to write the first draft, and another 7 or 8 months of
editing. The only time I worked continuously was when I was writing the first
draft, so hopefully I can speed that up next time.
Did you know what the book was going to
be about from the start?
I
came across the word nephilim when I was reading in Genesis. I’d never seen
that word before, and when I googled it all kinds of intriguing things came up!
There were several different ideas, but the one that stuck out to me was about
angels and humans falling in love and having these powerful hybrid children. I
couldn’t stop thinking about it, and I knew that was something I could write about
without losing interest.
Were there any scenes that were harder
to write than others?
The
hardest part for me was the beginning. Just getting started is a huge
challenge, and I write from an outline, so it’s easy to see how far away the
end is and get overwhelmed. I was also dreaming about some of the scenes later
in the book, and I could hardly stand it!
That definitely sounds like it would be a challenge! Any advice for aspiring writers?
To
dig deep, find your courage, and lay it all on the line. Work hard, and don’t
let fear hold you back from anything.
Very inspiring words! Future books in the works?
Right
now I’m working on the sequel to The Light and Fallen. It will continue
the story of Lucian and Samara, but there will also be more focus on Jack and
the work of the Fallen.

Hobbies?
I
have two daughters. They’re not a hobby of course, but they do take most of my
home time and they’re my heart. In the bits of time where I’m not with them or
writing I love to do digi scrapbooking, read YA fiction, and eat dinner
outside.
Special Writing Habits?
I
have to make a mug of Irish Breakfast tea and turn on some music. If it’s
daylight I turn off the light and open the blinds. I write on a tiny little
netbook, and I can only do a few pages at a time before I have to get up and
wander.
