A Witch in Winter - Ruth Warburton

"Anna Winterson doesn't know she's a witch and would probably mock you for believing in magic, but after moving to the small town of Winter with her father, she learns more than she ever wanted to about power. When Anna meets Seth, she is smitten, but when she enchants him to love her, she unwittingly amplifies a deadly conflict between two witch clans and splits her own heart in two. She wants to love Seth, to let him love her – but if it is her magic that's controlling his passion, then she is as monstrous as the witch clan who are trying to use her amazing powers for their own gain."

A Witch in Winter - a book that drew me in until I was begging to be part of Anna's world. Yes, begging whoever was listening.

Anna has just moved out of London to a little town called Winter. She's living in an old witches house, but that doesn't matter because Anna isn't superstitious and certainly doesn't believe in witches. So when her new friends convince her that they should try a love spell, she agree's - I mean, what could happen? But somehow, it seems as if the spell has worked, because gorgeous Seth is now a drooling love-sick puppy.

Anna is smart and sensible, so it isn't until the truth is inexplicably obvious that she begins to believe. She has accidentally put herself in danger, and the people around her too. But all the while, she really just wants Seth to be free of her spell. That is what I love about Anna. She doesn't care for magic, and Seth's heart and feelings are priority. Seth of course, is the gorgeous bad boy. If I was her, I would probably have left him in that state! What Anna doesn't notice is that they are beginning to connect on another level, one she doesn't think that they could have.

From the first chapter, I was so engaged in this story. In such a short period of time, I could see all the characters growing, while the plot kept it's mystery the whole way through. I can't wait to read the next book, to find out what's next in Anna's tale.

Order A Witch in Winter and be your own judge on this wonderful story

  3. I will admit that there were moments of pure joy during this book, but there were also tears too. I didn't even realise I was crying until I felt hot wet tears run in rivulets down my cheeks. But in the end, I was left smiling.
