Day Three - Networking... In Real Life?!

Today's post isn't going to be a long one. We are supposed to be sharing our "real life" experiences with books -  Either by way of your own partnerships in your community, a book signing you went to or possibly even a get together with fellow book bloggers (to quote the Armchair BEA schedule).

Unfortunately for me, I don't have a whole lot to share. In Perth, Australia, we don't really have any "indie" book shops for me to partner with. We have a few second-hand book stores, and a couple specialty ones, but that is about it. I would love to support a local bookstore, but we just don't really have them. We used to have 3 major book retailers, now we have 1. As for book signings, we don't really get them either. Not for YA authors anyway. I am lucky enough, that my favourite author, Melina Marchetta, will be in my state in September so I am hoping to meet her then! I have only been blogging for 4 months and have only met one book blogger from Perth online. It is sad that there aren't more, but I can see why. Perth has nothing. I'd be better moving over to Sydney or Melbourne - Perhaps one day.

But despite all this, I have made some fantastic online friends for which I am truly grateful. I didn't realise how much I would enjoy blogging when I started, so for me for now, Networking online is the greatest thing for me!

Be sure to come back tomorrow for Day Four - Beyond the Blog!

  1. We only have chain bookstores too over here in the Gold Coast too. And now that Borders are gone I don't really know where many booksignings are happening.

I'm excited for you to get to meet Melina Marchetta! I met her 8 years ago and she was lovely. I probably came across as a stuttering fangirl but she was really nice.

  2. i used to work for a Living Books, Inc in small town Saskatchewan. They distribute books across Canada through individual sellers, and about once a year, in September they have a big 2 day deal with seminars and they bring in 1 or 2 authors then to meet their staff. What a joy to meet Brock Thoene, Karen Kingsbury, Lauraine Snelling, Janette Oke, just to name a very few of the ones i've met over the years. Other than that, i haven't even heard of meet and greet authors in Western Canada, though there might be some

  3. True that! It's the same here in my city in the Philippines. But the online friends? There's nothing that can absolutely compare to the awesomeness of people like them ; )

Happy Day Three of ArmchairBEA to you!
