"This time, Riley might really have bitten off more than she’s ready for. After practically begging the Council for a more challenging Soul Catch, she is assigned an actual Roman gladiator—Theocoles, the Pillar of Doom. How is Riley, a skinny twelve-year-old, supposed to get through to him? Then she meets the beautiful Messalina, who convinces her that her only chance is to become part of this world. To accomplish this, Messalina helps Riley through a dramatic, mystical makeover, transforming her into the beautiful and mature teen she’s always wanted to be. Finally, Riley can experience her first boyfriend and her first kiss. With a dream this enchanting, will she ever want to leave?"

I am going to start by saying I was silly by just reading the fourth book without having read the previous three. I got this book from Pan Macmillan for review purposes.
However, having said that, I really wish I had read the first three, because this one was absolutely amazing and I wish I had started from the beginning first. Alas, I didn't, but I will definitely be going back to read the other three as soon as I can!

Riley Bloom is a 12-year-old soul catcher. She is sent to Roman times to help a gladiator named Theocoles cross the bridge, but it seems he just doesn't want to go. Many others have tried and failed, getting sucked into his world. Messalina is everything Riley wishes she was and she has befriended her. Messalina persuades Riley that she has to stay in this world if she wants to get Theocoles. She even gives her a magical make-over, which attracts the attention of Dacian. But all is not as it seems and Riley must figure things out before she gets sucked permanently into this world.

The story-line was gorgeous. I don't read a lot of MG books, but I found this story so enchanting. The scene that Noel sets just had me reveling in the glory of the Romans. The characters were truly gorgeous, and to watch this innocent girl go through so many emotional changes was just amazing. Riley Bloom is the kind of girl I want as my little sister.

Since I haven't read the previous books, there were a few questions I had that weren't answered, but know they will be once I read the previous three. I want to learn more about who Bodhi is and how Riley came to be a Soul Catcher.

I definitely recommend this series, for lovers for MG and YA alike.
