Yelena Black
Released: February 14, 2013
Publisher: Bloomsbury

Synopsis: Vanessa doesn’t believe that her sister is a runaway. She wouldn’t leave her family behind without saying a word. The only way Vanessa can discover the truth behind her mysterious disappearance is to follow in Margaret’s footsteps, but to do so she risks her sanity and maybe even her life .

Vanessa Adler is one of the talented few to get a place at the acclaimed New York Ballet Academy. Between backbreaking rehearsals for the school’s production of The Firebird she desperately tries to find out what happened to her sister before she vanished. There are rumors that the pressure of performing the lead role, the same role Vanessa is now rehearsing for, drove her mad. Other girls have gone missing too. Can the role be cursed? Vanessa’s new relationship with leading-man Zep only seems to complicate things further. What is he hiding from her and can she really trust him?

Black Swan meets Gossip Girl in this thrilling first book in a new series. Sexy, sinister and full of secrets, readers will be hooked on Dance of Shadows from the first page.

What it's about: Vanessa has been accepted into the New York Ballet Academy, a prestigious dance school. But she doesn't really want to be there, and she doesn't really want to be dancing. She is there in hopes of finding her missing sister Margaret. But there is something sinister going on behind the closed curtains and Vanessa just might have landed smack in the middle of it all.

What I thought: Huzzah! A wonderful book about dancing with a twist of paranormal activity going on! The story was fantastically written and kept me glued, wanting to know what was going to happened next. Why is Zep a bit weird and why is Vanessa too blind to see it? Why can't Justin be less creepy so we might actually want to love him. Why did Vanessa not care about dancing and is now so desperate to please Josef? SO MANY WHY'S! Yet, it didn't make me love the story any less. I loved all the characters - Vanessa, the love-struck puppy. Zep, the handsome male lead with a whole bunch of secrets. Justin, the mysterious creeper who can't seem to get it right. Blaine, the gay Asian who you just want to smoosh with hugs. Steffie, the best friend who doesn't actually think you're crazy and TJ, the room-mate who holds the group together.

I recommend this book to anyone and everyone who loves Young Adult fiction!

The Good: I loved the fact that the paranormal element of this novel wasn't overly extreme and it didn't cloud the wonderful dancing part of the story.

The Bad:  Originally thinking this was a stand-alone book and now realising I have to wait SO LONG for the next book!
