a novel is considered NA if it encompasses the transition between adolescence—a life stage often depicted in Young Adult (YA) fiction—and true adulthood.
Protagonists generally fall between the ages of eighteen and twenty-six, though exceptions may apply. New Adult is becoming the latest bookish trend. Books that are past the "YA audience age" are popping up everywhere. Personally, I love New Adult. I think it's a fantastic genre, and a great way for a reader like me to slowly transition from YA to Adult. We can read a romantic novel, that isn't completely innocence, or completely smut. Not that I'm saying that adult books are all like that, but as a twenty-two year old, I can relate to these character a lot more easily.
To be honest, I haven't read many NA books. Not enough to make a proper judgement. But I'm going to tell you the ones I have read, and the ones that are on the top of my "hurry up and read more new adult fiction right now" list.

Let's start with Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire. I'd say this is one of the most popular New Adult books to date. I devoured it. It devoured me. I loved it. Now it's being made into a film... So I get to see all the love on the big screen! Plus, the sequel, Walking Disaster, was just as amazing.
Slammed by Colleen Hoover is another one I loved. There is love, loss and heartache, but most importantly, beautiful poetry! The sequel to this one was also just as amazing.
Something Like Normal by Trish Doller is about a young man come home from war, to find his girlfriend is now with his brother. This book deals with all the typical issues in a NA novel, and adds war into the mix too. Totally touching too.
The Piper's Son by Melina Marchetta and If I Lie by Corrine Jackson are two young adult books that readers are now starting to label as new adult. They have the issues to be placed in NA, but they still have a certain sense of innocence that fits in the YA category too.
Other New Adult books I am dying to read: Easy by Tammara Webber, Wait for You by J. Lynn, Fallen too Far by Abbi Glines, Losing it by Cora Carmack and The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorensen. Just to name a few of the many many on my list!
