Welcome to the A-Z Blogging Challenge!

Today's topic is:

Xander, and other cool names -

Yes, I know this is a lame topic, but I didn't have a lot to go on for X.

Character naming is super important in my eyes, and these days authors seem to be using some pretty out there names. Some are fantastic. Some... well not so much.

Hermione.

Yes, I'm sure this was a great name before JK Rowling made it famous, but I'd never heard of it before. (Yes, I may live under a rock). Plus I had to Google how to even spell it properly.

Katniss.

So yeah, this one's cool. Quirky. Great for a character... But I would never name my child Katniss. Sorry Suzanne Collins.

Vasilisa.

You know, I still don't think I say this name right. Good thing her nickname is Lissa, or I would sound like an idiot when I say it wrong.

Maryse.

Also another name I have no idea how to pronounce.

Eve/Evie.

Okay so this isn't something quirky or unique, but I think I read six or seven books in 2012 where the main characters were called Eve or Evie. Usually a shortened form for Evelyn or Evangeline.

What unusual names have you come across? Or names that you just love?

Thanks for stopping by and making sure you come back Monday for my "Y" post!

  1. I've used Cerridwen for my character in a futuristic series of novels. Pronounced: cer - id - when. After a Welsh goddess.
