Beauty and the Beat -
Kate Forster
Released: June 1, 2013
Publisher: Hardie Grant Egmont

Synopsis: Mia knows what she wants in life – she was born to perform, and she doesn't need anyone's help to succeed.

So when she is paired with the obnoxious new guy for her final music assessment, she is beyond frustrated. Rob is rude, disrespectful and has terrible taste in music. They have absolutely zero in common.

But as they spend more time together, Mia starts to realise that there's more to Rob than she'd thought. That he might even be the guy she never knew she was looking for. Too bad she's already scared him off...

What I thought: I am a big fan of these Smitten novels that Hardie Grant keep publishing - they are a lovely escape from the real world. In this one, Mia is a girl who seems to have it all, and she isn't afraid to trample over people to get what she wants. Rob is the weird new kid, who frustrates yet fascinates her. They have to do their final music assessment together, and neither of them think the duo will work. Mia doesn't need anyone's help, and Rob just doesn't like a stuck-up brat. But slowly, they get to know each other, and realise that they both severely underestimated each other, and their feelings.

Mia was a hard character to like at first, but her character development is incredible, and by the end, I couldn't help but love her. Rob was lovable, in that brooding bad boy way, right from the start. The chemistry between them was undeniable and I couldn't help but get sucked into this wonderful romance.

The Good: I absolutely loved the character development in this story!

The Bad: Mia's secret problem wasn't as big as I expected it to be, and while the issue is still huge, I'm not sure the way it was portrayed gave the best impression.
