Anna Dressed In BLood -
Kendare Blake
Released: August 30, 2011
Publisher: Tor Teen

Synopsis: Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story...

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn’t expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

And she, for whatever reason, spares his life.

What it's about: Cas Lowood is a ghost hunter and this time he has finally meet his match. Anna Korlov is the ghost he has come to kill, but it seems she won't be as easy to take down as he may have thought. But now Cas is starting to get to know Anna, realising there is much more under the surface than what he once thought, and it is going to change everything.

What I thought: This was the book chosen for my bookclub this month and man, what a pick it was. I knew this book might be scary, gory but what I didn't expect was how much it would blow me away. Kendare Blake has written an amazing ghost story, with a killer twist. She doesn't shy away from the gruesome details and even had my stomach turning at many points, but that doesn't make you shy away from the unique story-line and this ability to draw you into the world she has created for Cas and Anna. If you haven't read Anna Dressed In Blood yet, then drop everything and do it now. Like, seriously.

the good: The amazing amount of detail Kendare Blake has put into her story.

the bad: Don't read this while or after you eat, that's for sure!
