Kresley Cole
Released: October 1, 2012
Publisher: Simon and Schuster

Synopsis: Sixteen year old Evangeline “Evie” Greene leads a charmed life, until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they’re still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.

But she can’t do either alone.

With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can’t totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?

Who can Evie trust?

As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it’s not always clear who is on which side….

What it's about: Evie had visions about the apocalypse and then it came. Now Evie has teamed with old-classmate Jack to find her grandmother, and figure out the rest of her visions and the voices in her head.

What I thought: If I had to put this review into just one sentence, this would be it: Best Book I Have Read In 2012. Big statement, I know, but this book has had the biggest effect on me all year. Let's start with Evie. To be honest, for a lot of the book, she really annoyed me. However, by the end of the book she was so bad-ass that it made up for all her previous annoyance. Next there is Jack. Now I know I tend to swoon over Young Adult male characters, but once you read this one, you will figure out why Jack is now my favourite. He is smart, witty and he rides a motorcycle. I shall say no more. I really loved that Jack was a 'Cajun' and spoke 'Cajun French' - I found myself imagining him talking in this accent, especially when words are spelled differently. The plot line kept me enthralled from the first page, I literally did not want to put this down the few times I had too.

I want to keep raving. I want to tell you all about it, but truth be told, you really just need to read this one yourself.

the good: I found this story to be really unique in the fact that I have never heard about someone taking the Tarot cards and bringing them to life in a book. I might be mistaken, but for me it was seriously exciting.

the bad: I found no bad with this book, except that I am already aching for the next one!

  1. Oh, man... just reading that synopsis had me heading over to GoodReads to add it to my mile-long TBR list. But it sounds so good! I love world-coming-to-an-end stories, and if you add a bad boy? Mmm. Definitely gonna pay this one a lot more attention. Thanks for the review!
