Between the Lives -
Jessica Shirvington
Released: May 1, 2013
Publisher: HarperCollins Aust

Synopsis: Above all else, though I try not to think about it, I know which life I prefer. And every night when I Cinderella myself from one life to the next a very small, but definite, piece of me dies. The hardest part is that nothing about my situation has ever changed. There is no loophole.

Until now, that is...

For as long as she can remember, Sabine has lived two lives. Every 24 hours she Shifts to her ′other′ life - a life where she is exactly the same, but absolutely everything else is different: different family, different friends, different social expectations. In one life she has a sister, in the other she does not. In one life she′s a straight-A student with the perfect boyfriend, in the other she′s considered a reckless delinquent. Nothing about her situation has ever changed, until the day when she discovers a glitch: the arm she breaks in one life is perfectly fine in the other.

With this new knowledge, Sabine begins a series of increasingly risky experiments which bring her dangerously close to the life she′s always wanted... But just what - and who - is she really risking?

What it's about: Sabine is not your usual teenager. She lives everyday twice... once in each of her two lives. Two very different lives, where she is two very different people. But now something is changing. Her shift is altering, and she might finally have her chance to pick one life to live forever, without the constant switch. But the problem is, which one will she choose?

What I thought: This idea reminded me of the television show Awake, which I absolutely love so I was completely drawn in immediately. In one life she has an adorable little sister, and parents that work long hard hours just to support the family. Sabine's a bit of a rebel, is single, and has the friends that her parents don't exactly approve of. In her other life she has two older brothers with whom she has a precarious relationship, divorced parents and more money than most people have. Sabine fits in with the popular crowd, along with her adoring boyfriend - two completely different lives.

In this edge-of-your-seat story, we see Sabine struggle to deal with the consequences of her actions in both lives - and fall in love unexpectedly. This was a fantastic book which makes you really see, that no matter how perfect life may seem for some, there is always something going on behind the curtains. I adored this book, and recommend it for all lovers of sci-fi books, or even contemporary!

The Good: I just loved the idea of having two separate lives, and being so completely different in them.

The Bad: While I loved Sabine most of the time, some of the things she said and did, really grated on me. Also, we never really find out why Sabine is the way she is.
