A book about a girl trying to find her way within her dysfunctional family, while being a Australian-Italian in a Catholic school, and falling for a bogan white guy. So much learning can be done here!

Something Like Normal - Trish Doller
This book is such a wonderful read, and deals with some great issues. It is a powerful look into the life of a Marine, and how their lives can change when they come back home.
Feeling Sorry for Celia - Jaclyn Moriarty
This is a wonderful novel, written mainly in letters and notes. An average teenage girl deals with normal teenage issues in a well-written and fun way.
The Day Before - Lisa Schroeder
Like Schoeder's other novels, this one is written in verse. It is a story about two strangers who have one complicated, perfect day together. At first, they don't want to talk about why they want to get away, but it only leads to the truth coming out.

If I Stay - Gayle Forman
I actually prefer Where She Went, but for this, I'd obviously have to pick the first one. Death and dying are prominent issues that are portrayed in a different way.

I do enjoy a great YA contemporary, and there are some great ones not this list, and a couple that are new to me that I'll have to keep an eye out for!

Lots of people have chosen this topic this week but you all seem to pick different books except for Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens. Its great to see something make everyone choose different books from the same idea.

I've only read two of these (The Day Before and If I Stay)... but I'm not usually a huge fan of contemporary fiction.
