Touch of Power - Maria V. Snyder

"Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan absorbs their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Fifteen Realms, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.
Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life.."

Let me start by saying I LOVE MARIA V. SNYDER! I have read all of her books and have equally loved each one, and Touch of Power was no different. I was surprised to find that she has decided to write a third series which revolves around magic, but she kept me hooked nonetheless.
Avry of Kazan is a kind-hearted girl who only wishes to help others. Her healing power allows her to absorb others wounds and heals herself, however instead of being loved and rewarded for her gift, she is hunted like her people to be persecuted. Throughout the book I felt sorry for her, for the position she was in, but you always just know she is going to pull through no matter what.
I didn't think Ms Snyder could have written a better male character than Valek (See Poison Study) but yet again, I was proved wrong when presented with Kerrick of Alga. Apart from being brooding, he is also gentle.

Avry is captured by Kerrick and his 4 "troops", but not for the gold reward. They need her to heal their king who is ridden with the plague.Their journey, along with Kerrick's friends, is one of danger and intrigue. Avry begins to enjoy being in their company after being withdrawn from human companionship for so long.

This book is set with amazing scenery which helps bring the book to life. If you loved her Poison Study series, you will love this one. I already can't wait for the second - Scent of Magic - which isn't set to be released until 2013!
