Author Interview - Hannah Harrington

Hannah Harrington is the author of Saving June and Speechless - Today she stops by to have a chat with us!

 Describe Speechless in three words!

Words have power!

What inspired you to write Speechless? Did you, or someone you know, have a similar experience to Chelsea?

I don't know anyone who has taken a vow of silence! I just thought one day of the idea of a girl taking one, and sort of rolled the ball from there!

From Chelsea’s point of view, we see just how horrible some teenagers can be. What was your high-school life like? What ‘group’ did you belong to?

I was friendly with a lot of different "groups". I was a bit of a slacker in high school, and I was just starting to get political so I hung out with a lot of activist, anarchist types. I just really liked being around people who cared about the same things I did!

Share with us, what would your dream movie cast be?

I think maybe Emma Roberts as Chelsea and Darren Criss as Sam? I'm not married to any ideas though!

I love that idea! Did you always want to be a writer?

Yes. I used to write all the time as a kid. I'd get made fun of for it, even. I spent more time in school scribbling out stories than taking notes!

Random Questions!

Any hobbies?

I play a little guitar, I love watching films, and I used to be a very avid equestrian.

Any special/quirky writing habits?

Sometimes I listen to music, sometimes I like it quiet, but I can NEVER have the television on!

Your favourite book? (Apart from your own, of course!)

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

Author Bio:

Hannah Harrington is a 25-year-old born and bred Michigander. She grew up in the town of East Grand Rapids before later moving to the Lansing area, where she currently resides with three cats and a black labrador, all of whom are named after famous musicians.
She wrote her first book at age nine, a stunning, forty-page Call of the Wild/Black Beauty ripoff ode to her dead dog. She later attempted her second at fourteen (by longhand), but failed miserably. She got the idea for Saving June during the summer after high school, while living out of her car and working as a pizza cook. It wasn't until she was twenty-one that she decided to write a story around the scenes she'd scribbled into a notebook years before.
Saving June, Hannah's first novel, was published by Harlequin Teen in 2011. Her next novel, Speechless, will be released in the US on August 28th, 2012.
When she isn't busy writing like a crazy person, Hannah enjoys horseback riding, arguing about politics, watching documentaries, playing guitar (very badly), and speaking about herself in the third person.
